The 2024 college football season is right around the corner and sportsbooks already have different betting odds up. One of the markets that always draws the most interest is Heisman Trophy odds.
Georgia quarterback Carson Beck (+700) is the early betting favorite followed by Quinn Ewers (+800) of Texas. However, there is another quarterback with longer odds who bettors should be eying heading into the season.

Carson Beck, QB Georgia (+700)
It’s not surprising to see the Georgia quarterback on top of the oddsboard. The Bulldogs are the preseason favorites to win the National Championship and Beck will have high-profile games against Clemson, Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss and Tennessee to lock down the award.
The thing that scares me about Beck is the way Georgia plays. The Bulldogs are so deep and talented, the quarterback isn’t asked to win games by himself. If you look at Beck’s numbers from last season, he threw for over 300 yards five times and more than two touchdowns three times. Will he put up the big numbers to sway voters?
I will say this: If Georgia gets through its daunting schedule unbeaten, Beck will be tough to beat. Then again, J.J. McCarthy led Michigan to an unbeaten season and wasn’t a factor to win the award. I like Beck but not enough to bet him at +700.
New Orleans Saints 2024 schedule: Predictions for all 17 games
Quinn Ewers, QB Texas (+800)
Ewers is very interesting because he could win the Heisman Trophy or be the second-string quarterback in October.
Like Georgia, Texas faces a challenging schedule that includes Michigan, Oklahoma and Georgia all before Halloween. If Ewers were to struggle in a couple of those games, the Arch Manning era at Texas could begin sooner than expected.
The Longhorns are loaded on both sides of the football and should be in the mix for a National Championship. However, watch that early matchup at Michigan. If Ewers doesn’t play well and Texas loses, he’ll be on a short leash.
Garrett Nussmeier, QB LSU (+1300)
The player I like right now is LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. On paper, it might look like the Tigers’ offense will take a step back after Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr were all drafted in the first round. But don’t feel sorry for LSU. The Tigers’ offense will still be scary.
I’m not saying Nussmeier will put up Daniels/Joe Burrow numbers but with a defense that is still suspect, the Tigers will be heavily dependent on their offense to win. Nabers and Thomas Jr may be gone but guys like CJ Daniels, Zavion Thomas and Kyren Lacy are talented receivers ready to step up.
Another thing to remember about LSU is the Tigers have arguably the best offensive line in college football, so Nussmeier will have time in the pocket to get the ball downfield to his new targets. LSU has a pretty manageable SEC schedule. The key game is Nov. 9 at home versus Alabama. Win that one and LSU should be in great shape to secure a CFB Playoff spot.
Here’s a prediction: Nussmeier has a Heisman-caliber season and is a future top NFL draft pick. Hop aboard the Nuss Bus now at +1300.
