The 2024 NFL Draft didn’t disappoint with an eventful first round Thursday night. With the landing spots of many of the top names now revealed, sportsbooks have already released NFL Rookie of the Year odds – including for the top first-timer on the offensive side of the ball.
Let’s dive into some of the most notable names on the initial version of the futures betting leaderboard, as well as a couple of early predictions on potential winners.
2024 NFL Offensive Rookie Of The Year Odds: Preview and Picks for top rookie award
Naturally, former USC and now Chicago Bear quarterback Caleb Williams (+250 or better) sits atop the leaderboard across all sportsbooks after he was officially made the first overall pick Thursday night.
Quarterbacks were all the talk of the first half of the opening round – a record-tying six were selected in the first 12 picks – and they also have a formidable presence near the top of the OROY leaderboards.
Caleb Williams 2024 NFL OROY odds: (+250 or better)
Not only is Williams a likely Day 1 starter, but he’s blessed with an outstanding 1-2 wideout tandem in veterans DJ Moore and offseason addition Keenan Allen.
Add the Bears’ second first-round pick, the explosive Rome Odunze, an athletic tight end in Cole Kmet and a three-headed ground attack into the mix, and Williams is set up to succeed immediately.
Marvin Harrison Jr. NFL OROY Odds: (+500 or better)
Considered by most pundits as the best non-quarterback prospect in this year’s class, Harrison’s talent alone would have afforded him fairly short odds irrespective what NFL destination he’d been afforded.
However, oddsmakers appear to be pretty bullish on his new Arizona digs, as a clear-cut No. 1 receiver job and a dynamic, mobile quarterback in Kyler Murray await the Ohio State star.
2024 NFL rookie of the year picks: JJ McCarthy (+1000 or better)
McCarthy reportedly wasn’t the Vikings’ first choice – they tried to move up to No. 3 and nab Drake Maye – but no matter. The Michigan product is going to likely see the field early in his rookie campaign.
When all that’s standing in your way of the starting job is Sam Darnold, there’s a good chance McCarthy begins to make up for a relatively low volume of college reps fairly quickly in the NFL.
2024 NFL offensive rookie of the year predictions: Jayden Daniels (+1000 or better)
The reigning Heisman Trophy winner and dynamic playmaker is a different quarterback than Williams or Maye, much more of a modern prototypical dual threat that also displayed impressive accuracy and ball security over his last two college seasons.
Daniels’ odds are as short as +650 elsewhere, implying he can make a big push early in his first season.
Daniels’ elite athleticism should play very well in Kliff Kingsbury’s versatile offensive system, and an Austin Ekeler-Brian Robinson backfield will help protect the young quarterback.
Daniels could also be the key that fully unlocks the potential of a pass-catching corps led by Terry McLaurin and the speedy Jahan Dotson.
Getting past journeyman Marcus Mariota on the depth chart shouldn’t be too much of an issue, and there’s enough between his talent and weapons for a soft NFL landing and accelerated growth curve.
