The 2024 Kentucky Derby is less than a week away and excitement is in the air.
The post positions were drawn on Saturday — one week before the 150th running of the annual horse race — for the first time in its history. The drawing for each horse’s respective starting gate took place at the newly renovated paddock at Churchill Downs. While these positions don’t guarantee success, some (Post 5 and Post 10) have produced more winners than others. The 2023 winner, Mage, began the race from Post 8.
The Kentucky Derby kicks off the triple crown as the annual first leg. The festivities at Churchill Downs are followed by the Preakness Stakes on May 18 and the Belmont Stakes shortly after in early June.
