With the bright pink Barbie tour fully in her rear view mirror, Margot Robbie has been embracing a wardrobe of slick black evening dresses lately. For the Breakthrough Prize, she wore one of our favourites yet, a strapless black design from Rick Owens, which she teamed with chunky gold bangles.

Katy Perry was another star to make a case for the black gown. She wore a structured design from Coperni’s latest collection, which she teamed with the label’s viral Air Swipe bag.

The beautiful black gowns continued with Lizzo’s custom Quine Li design, which featured an exaggerated shoulder and train. She teamed it with a sharp bob and pointy pumps.

Behati Prinsloo dipped into the archives for her look. The model chose a design from Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring/summer 1995 collection, a strapless pinstripe dress.

Keeping things super classic was Michelle Yeoh, who wore a double-breasted white suit by Tom Ford with silver accessories, including a sparkly Balenciaga bag.

Olivia Wilde wore a sleeved black dress by Galvan, which featured a huge cut-out detail up one side and a dramatic white bow.

Zoe Saldana embraced a little sparkle for the evening. The actress wore a strapless black gown by Givenchy which was absolutely covered in sequins. She accessorised with silver jewellery and a red lip.

Brie Larson marked the start of spring with a floral ballgown by Chanel, which had a halter neckline. She styled it with an updo and peeptoe heels.

Venus Williams was one of the few stars on the night to embrace some serious colour. The sports star wore a bright pink, floor-length gown with silver straps by Prada.

Jessica Chastain always bring a touch of glamour to proceedings. She wore a purple sequinned dress by Elie Saab with a low V neckline and pockets.
