The WNBA Commissioner’s Cup tips off Saturday at Noon on ESPN with the Indiana Fever hosting the Chicago Sky. The matchup does not feature the best teams in the WNBA right now, but it very well may feature the most popular, with star rookie Caitlin Clark on one side (Fever) and rookie duo Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso on the other (Sky).

On top of that, the Sky and Fever will face each other for the first time this season. Indiana (1-8, 0-4 home) are still searching for their first home win of the season while Chicago (3-3, 2-1 away) look win their 2nd straight after falling twice in a row.

Indiana Fever vs. Chicago Sky Prediction, Picks

It’s not exactly status quo, but it’s already obvious that Indiana’s best player is Caitlin Clark. The star out of Iowa has been putting up impressive offensive numbers already this season and, incredibly, sits 4th in the league in assists per game at 6.6.

But there’s a catch. Clark also leads the league in turnovers per game at 5.7, a truly dreadful number. After all she’s still a rookie learning the pace of the game and is given much more trust with the ball compared to other rookie’s given her insane offensive potential. In other words, she has the most opportunity to turn the ball over of any rookie in the game right now.

But it’s a weak point for a Fever team that is among the worst in the league in terms of offensive production, especially so facing a Sky team that is 4th in the league in points allowed per game (79.7 compared to Indiana’s league-worst mark of 91.2).

There’s no recipe for success here for Indiana that allows for turning the ball over at the rate they have been this season (14.4 per game) while struggling offensively against one of the better defensive teams in the league. Chicago has had their struggles on offense as well, but they simply have more talent to fall back on.

The Sky are considered road favorites in this game, sitting at -3.5 spread and -165 moneyline according to BetMGM. Indiana has -105 odds to keep the game within 4 points and sits at +140 ML.

Saturday will pit 2 of the 4 worst offensive teams in the WNBA against each other, which is why the point total for this game is almost absurdly low. Mariana Mabry, the Sky’s top scorer, has struggled against strong defensive teams this year. For that reason, it may be a good play to look at the under Saturday afternoon.

Best Fever vs. Sky Player Props for June 1

Player Props (Fever vs. Sky) Odds
Caitlin Clark under 2.5 3-Pointers Made +155
Angel Reese over 7.5 rebounds -130
Marina Mabrey over 2.5 3-pointers -155

Caitlin Clark is kind known for her 3-ball, so there’s a reason the odds for this are so high – but the stats are on the under’s side here. Chicago is only allowing 5.8 3-pointers per game so far this season, the 2nd best mark in the league among defenses. Don’t believe this is a smart move? Clark has been under this total in 4 of her 9 games this season, and she’s yet to face a perimeter defense of this capacity.

Reese is a strong, strong rebounder already for the Sky, tied for the lead on the team with 8.2 per game. Not only is her average above this total, but she’s facing a Fever team that really struggles to rebound and one that is among the least efficient teams in the league on the offensive end, leading to more rebounding opportunities in the first place.

Mabrey may be the only player on the court that can shoot with Caitlin Clark from range. She’s fresh off draining 6 shots from downtown in the Sky’s win over the Sparks, so 3 triples Saturday against a rough Fever defense should be light work.
