Mike Perry vs. Jake Paul opening odds, preview

Jake Paul and Mike Perry have agreed to meet in a boxing match on July 20. Paul was originally scheduled to face Mike Tyson this summer but the boxing legend had to bow out due to injury.

Oddsmakers like Paul’s chances to get another win. The YouTube star opened as a -280 favorite over Perry with the former MMA fighter seeing odds of +220 to give Paul his second career loss.

Mike Perry vs. Jake Paul odds

Jake Paul -280

Mike Perry +220

Perry doesn’t bring the same hype as Tyson but this could actually be a more difficult fight for Paul if it goes beyond the first couple of rounds. Tyson is closing in on 60-years-old, while Perry is just 32. Perry will actually be the youngest former MMA fighter Paul has faced to date.

While Perry is younger than Tyson, that’s really his only advantage over the former Heavyweight Champion of the world. Perry’s record as an MMA fighter is just 14-8. If there is one silver lining, Perry has shown to have a good chin, being knocked out only once in his fighting career by Geoff Neal in 2019.

While that looks good on paper, Perry isn’t a pure boxer and he hasn’t fought anyone who can punch like Paul. Say what you want about the YouTuber turned boxer, but Paul has power with six stoppages in his nine career wins.

Tyson is 57 but he can still punch with the power of a mule kick. There was a chance he could catch Paul and end the fight early. I don’t see Perry being the same threat. This feels like another former MMA fighter handpicked for Paul so he can keep winning until a larger payday with a big name comes down the road.

I think we see these odds go up in the coming weeks, so -280 on Paul might be the best number you’ll see. However, I’m waiting for the fight props to come out. The bet I like is Paul to win by KO/TKO where bettors will get much more value. Look for Paul to get another win by stoppage on July 20.
