Scotland vs Hungary betting preview

So, it all comes down to this.

Steve Clarke has said from the outset that the target was four points from the group.

After the 1-1 draw in midweek, they’ve set it up nicely and now just need to beat Hungary on Sunday to reach the next stage.

The performance was much better on Wednesday – granted it couldn’t have been worse.

Scotland started the game so, so well and took the lead through Scott McTominay. That goal saw the team drop a bit deeper which was a bit of a shame, especially losing as daft a goal as they did.

But they hung on well and had chances to win it in the second half, coming closest when Grant Hanley hit the post.

What will concern Clarke is the injury to Kieran Tierney, with the back five including Anthony Ralston, Jack Hendry, Grant Hanley and Scott McKenna causing one or two worries.

Hungary weren’t great in their loss to Switzerland but looked a better outfit when going down 2-0 to Germany in midweek.

They also need a win on Sunday and that could – and should – make for an entertaining match-up.

Granted, that defence is giving me cause for concern but there’s quality further up the park that can see us over the line.

Scott McTominay’s role up front late on was a real weapon to have and there’s enough to come off the bench to help if the game stays tight until later in the day.

Set pieces could be crucial and we MUST make better use of them in this game than the other day.

One that did work well from a wide free-kick ended with Grant Hanley hitting the post and inches from being a Scotland hero.

I’m backing him to use that presence well here and get a goal which could be crucial – and also break the spell of only being ‘Mc’s’ that score for Scotland in this competition.
