Sports betting doubles down on fiscal return from a year ago

The legal sports wagering market generated just over $5.7 million in contributions to the state of Maryland in June, more than double the $2.8 million recorded in June 2023, Maryland Lottery and Gaming said.

$5.7 million is the fifth-highest single month total contribution since sports betting was legalized in Maryland in December 2021.

The revenue from June rounds out Fiscal Year 2024 for the state. From July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, $60.3 million went to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund via sports betting, almost 2.5 times the $25,258,639 brought in during Fiscal Year 2023.

Revenue sources contributing to these totals include sports wagers placed at retail sportsbooks as well as on mobile sports betting apps.
