Kristy Janigo, who serves as the legislative chair for Minnesota American Legion, said the past legislative cycle was all about how the Legion can look at ways to defray revenue losses so that the Legion can continue to support their four pillars.

The American Legion supported a bill last legislative session that would have legalized sports betting.

“The Legion doesn’t have a specific vested interest in sports betting itself, but we highly support the tax cuts that were included within the bill,” said Janigo. “This is a fully funded tax cut. The state revenue generated from legal sports betting would be able to fully fund this tax cut of around 40 million dollars a year back to Minnesota charitable gambling operations.”

Janigo said support for the bill started off strong, but the chaos of the end of the session prevented the bill from being heard on the House floor.
