Premier League – Next Manager sacked odds: Who will be the first to leave?

NEWCASTLE UNITED manager Eddie Howe is favourite to be the first managerial casualty of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

That’s according to bookmakers William Hill, who’ve installed the Magpies boss at 5/1 to be the first person to leave his position in the upcoming campaign.

Last season bucked the trend for managerial departures.

Just three were given their marching orders, which was a huge reduction from the previous year which saw a record-breaking 14 sackings.

Paul Heckingbottom, Steve Cooper and Roy Hodgson were the unlucky trio last season, while Wolves’ Julen Lopetegui left by mutual consent before the campaign had even started.

Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Jurgen Klopp and David Moyes then departed at the end of the campaign.

It’s widely thought that Premier League chiefs were more confident of avoiding the drop with PSR punishments being dished out and a lack of quality in the three promoted sides.

But will this year be different?

William Hill think Newcastle’s Eddie Howe (5/1) is the most likely to leave his position following claims he’s a top candidate to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager.

Nottingham Forest’s Nuno Espirito Santo is next at 8/1 with owner Evangelos Marinakis notoriously trigger-happy.

Erik ten Hag is also available at 8/1 despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS sticking with him after last season’s disastrous eighth-placed finish.

It’s strange to see given he’s only just finished decorating his office, but Chelsea’s new manager Enzo Maresca looks vulnerable at 9/1.

The Italian tactician has endured a difficult pre-season campaign as he looks to imprint his style and philosophy on Chelsea’s bloated 44-man squad.

Southampton’s Russell Martin is offered at 10/1 with a hugely difficult fight for survival on the horizon.

It will be interesting to see whether the Saints boss is prepared to be flexible on his possession-based style which proved so problematic for Burnley last season.
