2024 Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes tips
Live In The Dream caused a 28-1 shock when winning this 12 months ago and while there was certainly no fluke about that outcome, he faces a stiff task to repeat those heroics. The five-year-old only has one way of running – from the front – but has been below his best so far this year and it seems unlikely he will be able to overturn the Glorious Goodwood form with Big Evs.
Michael Appleby’s charge found this too hot as a juvenile last year but he’s come one leaps and bounds since and looks to have every chance here. He took the scalp of Royal Ascot heroine Asfoora in the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last month and should be right here again in an open renewal – particularly considering the strong speed he showed last time.
Asfoora had to concede 5lbs for her King Charles III victory at Royal Ascot and produced another fine run last time. She is probably the rightful favourite, though the fact this is likely to be a ferociously run affair might just work against her.
Both Believing and Bradsell deserve respect, but at the prices, it could be worth siding with last year’s Haydock Sprint Cup winner Regional. He was a running on fifth in this last year and clearly learned plenty from that, going on to be prominent throughout at Haydock next time.
The six-year-old has largely been running well in three starts this summer and can be forgiven his run when fourth at Newbury last time, when unable to concede weight to three improving three-year-olds.
He lost very little in defeat when second behind Asfoora at Royal Ascot two starts ago and bearing in mind this is likely to be ferocious, the fact the son of Territories can stay six furlongs could well play into his hands. Provided he can withstand the early heat, he’s fancied to last them out to claim a second career Group 1 success.

We kick things off with a tricky-looking handicap over a mile and a half, in which Wafei could be the answer. The three-year-old looked a handicapper to follow when opening his account at Hamilton in June and while he was thwarted in his follow up bid at Glorious Goodwood, the race wasn’t run to suit that day. The son of American Pharoah ought to be suited by the extra furlong here and there looks to be plenty of manoeuvre off his current mark of 86.

A Group 2 contest for the stayers, with the line up including Melbourne Cup contender Vauban. He’d have a shout on his best form but was below par at this level at the Curragh last time, while Point Lonsdale would be interesting if coping with this sharp rise in trip. However, with the son of Australia having to prove his ability over this far the vote goes to the improving Alsakib.
He posted a career best effort to win a Group 3 contest over a mile and three quarters here last month, giving the impression he could improve for further that day. With that in mind, the 10-1 on offer at the time of writing could offer plenty of value

A wide-open renewal of this Group 2 for the two-year-olds. A case can be made for several, but The Strikin Viking is handed another chance to pick up Group success. The son of Inns Of Court was a half a length second at Glorious Goodwood last time, but still showed signs of experience that day. There’s no doubting that Kevin Ryan’s charge has plenty of talent and with three starts now under his belt, the penny is fancied to finally drop at this level.

Another highly competitive affair, in which Power Of Destiny is fancied to pick up a deserved success. The daughter of Sea The Stars was an unlucky second over this trip at Glorious Goodwood last month, when just failing after having to wait for an opening in-running. She’s a nice prospect in this sphere and raised just 1lb for that, can gain compensation here.

The Nunthorpe Stakes is one of the most popular and prestigious races of the year in the UK, which regularly proves to be an intense betting heat.
