Light-touch financial vulnerability checks from the UK Gambling Commission, are coming into effect today.
The checks are part of a set of new UK measures aimed at improving player safety.
Announced back in May, the checks will come into effect for online gambling customers with a net deposit of more than £500 per month on gambling. In February, that figure will be £150.
In support of this, the Betting and Gaming Council introduced a voluntary Industry Code on Consumer Checks in May, developed in partnership with the Commission, to operate as a voluntary interim scheme.
Following a consultation on the proposals and feedback about the potential impact of the checks, the UK regulator confirmed it will only use publicly available data and not require gambling operators to consider personal details such as postcode or job title.
