Netherlands v Germany

Kick Off: Tuesday 10th September at 19:45

Competition: Nations League

Following impressive performances from both sides in their openers, we have a right to expect a thrilling game in this clash between The Netherlands and Germany in the Johan Cruyff Arena.

The two European giants sit joint top of League A Group 3, with three points a piece. Both games were thoroughly entertaining with the pair finding the back of the net five times each.

Perhaps surprisingly, the bookies just about have it going the way of the Dutch, pricing them as slight favourites.

Tijjani Reijnders to have 2+ shots

As implied by the odds, this affair could go either way but backing Germany to win definitely seems worth a shout given their consistency on the international stage.

Both teams to score is another intriguing market given both sides scored five in their last matches with the Netherlands also conceding two against Bosnia and Herzegovina. It’s also worth noting that both teams have scored in each of the last five clashes between these sides, with an average of 4 goals being scored per game over the period.

Interestingly, three of the last four have also resulted in either side reigning victorious by the final whistle. With that in mind, backing both teams to score no draw could also be appealing.

In the individual markets, we can say with relative certainty that the best value is on Tijjani Reijnders to take either 1+ or 2+ shots. The AC Milan midfielder has averaged 2.36 shots per 90 so far this season for Milan but has relished playing even further forward for The Netherlands under Koeman. Operating almost as a 10, Reijnders fired off five shots in his Nations League opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina making these odds nothing short of tantalising.

📊 Netherlands Form and Stats

The Netherlands thrashed Bosnia and Herzegovina 5-2 in their Nations League opener, also triumphing 3.75-1.05 on expected goals. It was a really positive performance for Ronald Koeman’s men who dominated the match, keeping 76% of possession and accumulating 28 shots, nine of which were on target. Five different players found their way onto the scoresheet, including Man United’s big-money summer acquisition, Joshua Zirkzee, who notched his first for The Netherlands.

This was the latest in a good run of form for the Euros semi-finalists who previous to getting knocked out by England, recorded some strong results during the competition including holding their own against France to take a point from them in the group stage.

Cody Gakpo will be one player to watch against Germany and has arguably been the most consistent out of the Dutch team in recent years. The Liverpool ace has managed four goal contributions in his last four matches for his country, and could well have further added to that tally had he not been taken off in the 66th minute against Bosnia.

📊 Germany Form and Stats

Germany were perhaps even more impressive as they reigned supreme in a 5-0 demolition over Hungary. It was an all-round outstanding performance and Hungary found it seemingly impossible to halt their build-up play, which led to the creation of nine big chances, two of which hit the woodwork, in addition to the five that went in.

The tie marked the start of a new era for Germany, following the international retirements of Ilkay Gündoğan, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller and Toni Kroos but expectations are understandably high given the crop of young stars who appear to be more than ready to take the reins from here.

Musiala for one, was absolutely unplayable as he managed a hattrick of assists as well as finding the back of the net just before the hour mark. His seven chances created was over double that of Pascal Gross who supplied the second most on the pitch and only Havertz drew more than his three fouls. That shouldn’t come as a surprise given that the winger involved himself in, and won, the most duels on the pitch too.

Germany have won seven of their last nine, the only loss coming against eventual Euro champions, Spain, in the semi-final. That run consists of a string of impressive results, including wins against France and The Netherlands themselves.

⚔️ Netherlands v Germany Head-to-Head

Looking at the head-to-head form between these sides, all evidence suggests we could be in for a cracking affair. Five of the last six showings have seen over 2.5 goals scored including each of the last three competitive matches.

Results-wise, there have been six editions played out since 2018, producing an even split of two draws, two Germany wins and two Netherlands wins. You’ll find that that’s pretty typical of these games, even looking further back in history with Germany claiming the bragging rights 17 times compared to The Netherlands’ 12.
