Real Madrid vs Stuttgart predictions

Real Madrid’s status as the kings of the continent is long established. They won the first five editions of the European Cup and have remained the most successful side in the competition ever since.

After their triumph last term, Madrid have now won the European Cup/Champions League on 15 occasions. That is double the amount of the next-best performers, AC Milan on seven.

Since 2014, Madrid have lifted the trophy six times. That is the same number of overall successes as Bayern Munich and Liverpool, and more than the likes of Manchester United, Juventus, Barcelona and Inter have ever achieved.

Madrid did not have everything their own way in the 2024 final, as Borussia Dortmund pushed them hard before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat.

But it is difficult to argue that los Blancos did not deserve to claim the prize. They knocked out holders Manchester City and German giants Bayern Munich on the way to the final, having previously won all six group games. Madrid did not lose a single encounter in the competition.

This time, of course, there will be no group matches. The old format has been replaced by a league phase in which all 36 teams (an increase of four) are in the same table.

Every side will play eight games, four at home and four on the road. The aim for the likes of Madrid is to finish in the top eight, which would bring with it a place in the round of 16. The teams that finish between ninth and 24th will then contest the knockout stage play-offs.

Madrid have some tricky ties on the horizon before the end of January, with Liverpool, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund among their opponents. The likes of Atalanta and Stuttgart are not quite as established as European forces, but neither should be underestimated.

Were it not for Bayer Leverkusen’s remarkable unbeaten campaign, Stuttgart’s accomplishments last term would have received a great deal more attention.

Having almost been relegated the previous year, Sebastian Hoeness’ charges finished second – above the mighty Bayern Munich. Madrid should not expect to have everything their own way here.

Real Madrid vs Stuttgart betting tips

Real Madrid will be looking for a victory when they begin the defence of their Champions League crown.

Real Madrid to win and both teams to score – 23/20 (BetMGM)

Real Madrid had a couple of early-season stumbles in La Liga, but back-to-back 2-0 victories over Real Betis and Real Sociedad have lifted the mood at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid still trail Barcelona, who have made a perfect start to 2024/25, by four points, but their last two performances have been a big improvement on what went before.

Carlo Ancelotti, who previously admitted that Madrid had yet to find the right balance, will have been particularly delighted with the clean sheets.

But while we expect los Blancos to ultimately prove too strong for Stuttgart, their backline may well be breached in this one.

The German side have scored 14 goals in five matches in all competitions so far this season, so they will carry a threat against Madrid.

Pick Real Madrid to win and both teams to score at 23/20 with BetMGM

Over 3.5 goals – 5/6 (BetMGM)

Each of Stuttgart’s five outings this term has featured more than 3.5 goals, so this wager is well worthy of consideration.

There are signs that Real Madrid’s new-look attack is starting to come together. Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe both scored from the penalty spot against Real Sociedad, while Ancelotti was able to rest Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo from the start without any detrimental effects.

Those two players are likely to return to the XI on Tuesday, with Mbappe continuing up top and Vinicius remaining on the left.

The sheer attacking talent at Madrid’s disposal means they are capable of blowing away any opponent in Europe if things click up front.

They will not necessarily do that to Stuttgart, but goals are unlikely to be in short supply.

Vinicius Junior to score any time – 59/50 (BetMGM)

Bellingham was Madrid’s star man in the first half of last season, but Vinicius was the player who drove them to success in the Champions League knockout phase.

The arrival of Mbappe means Vinicius is no longer automatically the go-to man at the Bernabeu, but he will be determined to show that he remains as important as ever to the Madrid cause.

The Brazil international is a fabulous player and, although he endured a disappointing international break in the World Cup qualifiers, he has proved himself to be one of the best players on the planet over the last couple of years.

The odds on Mbappe scoring any time are not especially attractive, but 59/50 is a good price on Vinicius making the net bulge.

Tip Vinicius Junior to score any time at 59/50 with BetMGM
