A new range of equipment is set to be installed at council leisure centres in Wolverhampton for people with physical disabilities.

The equipment includes a wheelchair treadmill, adapted rowing machine and a hand bike.

It has already been installed at WV Active’s Bilston-Bert Williams centre, and will be introduced at the Aldersley and Central sites in the coming weeks.

Wolverhampton City Council said it had invested £12,000 in the new equipment.

The authority said it wanted its sites to be as inclusive as possible.

Paralympian Mickey Bushell, who won gold at London 2012 and now runs inclusive fitness classes, was among those to try out the equipment.

He said the investment was a huge step forward for wheelchair users who wanted to get active.

The council said the new equipment followed its recent £1m refurbishment of gyms across the three leisure centres.
