Many New Yorkers started dreading the news this week at the sight of New York City Mayor Eric Adams in a baseball cap dually adorned with logos of the Yankees and Mets.

How could Adams omit the Big Apple’s other postseason star, the WNBA’s Liberty?

Whatever their chosen apparel, winning helps fans quickly fuhgeddabout such squabbles.

With the Yanks off for an American League Championship series travel day, the Mets and Liberty can advance closer to their championship goals. We also look at an NHL game involving a visiting team the NYC set loves to loathe.

Here we go.

Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets

With a career spent in a large West Coast market and throngs of media following his every move, Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani hardly shies from the big stage.

Could that explain why he’s 6-for-8 with a home run and three walks with men on base this postseason? Oh, and 0-for-19 with 10 strikeouts with the bases empty?

It’s an anomaly, to be sure, but LA manager Dave Roberts made clear Tuesday he isn’t moving Ohtani from the leadoff spot, where Ohtani is guaranteed at least one bases-empty at-bat each game.

That may be a good thing, as Ohtani gets first licks in Game 3 of a National League Championship Series that’s even at 1-1. He’s 3-for-6 with a double and solo home run in his career against Mets starter Luis Severino.

The Dodgers could use a spark after following their Game 1 runaway with a dud Monday afternoon. Ohtani to the rescue.

New York Liberty at Minnesota Lynx

The best-of-five WNBA Finals are tied at one game apiece as the series shifts to Minnesota for Game 3.

While the Liberty squandered home-court advantage with a sluggish finish in the series opener, they recovered from an overtime loss with an 80-66 victory in Game 2.

“We got our rhythm and momentum back in Game 2,” New York’s Breanna Stewart said. “(We were) just kind of picking up things offensively and defensively, bringing them to another level and knowing that it’s not going to get any easier from here.”

Not with the Lynx featuring Napheesa Collier, who’s averaging a league-best 25.2 points in the playoffs to go with 9.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists. Still, Collier is coming off a postseason-low 16-point effort that still paced the team as the Lynx sought to establish secondary scoring.

New York has touted its depth all season, with Game 2 no different. While Stewart led all scorers with 21 points and racked up a Finals-record seven steals, Betnijah Laney-Hamilton started 4-of-4 from the floor en route to a 20-point night that doubled her previous high in these playoffs.

With more options early and late, look for the Liberty to prevail in a close one.

Boston Bruins at Colorado Avalanche

Both of Boston’s losses have come against the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.

On Wednesday, the Bs will aim to be better against the club that captured the Cup the season before last, the Colorado Avalanche.

The numbers suggest it could happen.

Boston hung around with the Panthers in a 4-3 loss Monday by flexing its forward depth. On a day David Pastrnak’s three-game goal streak ended, the Bruins’ fourth line was involved in each Boston goal.

Later that day, Colorado lost for the third time in as many games as goaltender Alexandar Georgiev surrendered five New York Islanders goals on 36 shots. The Avalanche are beset by injury, to put it mildly, but coach Jared Bednar expects defenseman Devon Toews (lower body) to be back against Boston.

That might shore things up some for a team that’s already allowed 20 goals this season, but the Avs will continue to struggle.
