Public tips helping expedite online gambling eradication: govt

Jakarta (ANTARA) –
The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has said that the reporting of content related to online gambling by the community is helping accelerate online gambling eradication in Indonesia.

The ministry’s director general of application and informatics, Hokky Situngkir, said that reports from the community are complementing the steps taken by the ministry to address and eradicate online gambling.

“We provide a content complaint channel and the public can participate … at aduankonten.id,” he informed during a discussion, which was followed from here on Thursday.

He said that with the help of direct online gambling reports from the public, the government can move faster to weed out online gambling content that is not automatically detected by the system from the Indonesian digital space.

According to Situngkir, online gambling is continuing to evolve in various forms to adjust to the target market, which cuts across generations. Therefore, the role of the community is needed to combat it.

He further said that since online gambling is posing a threat to people irrespective of their educational backgrounds and age, the issue must become a shared concern.

He added that as part of online gambling eradication efforts, the ministry cut off access to 4,760,755 items of online gambling content during the period from 2017 to October 14, 2024.

The ministry also bolstered coordination across ministries and agencies for firmer law enforcement against online gambling perpetrators and developers.

During the period, the ministry also asked the OJK to block 7,599 bank accounts related to online gambling and Bank Indonesia to close 573 e-wallet accounts.
