Man Utd vs Chelsea preview

Manchester United and Chelsea renew hostilities in the Premier League at Old Trafford this weekend.

And it’s a chance for interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy to prove his worth ahead of Ruben Amorim’s arrival from Sporting Lisbon in the international break.

“Ruuuuuuuud” was the chant when he left the tunnel to take charge of United’s emphatic 5-2 victory over Leicester in the Carabao Cup earlier this week.

The handbrake was off as Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes both grabbed well-taken braces and Alejandro Garnacho fired home his fifth goal of the season.

And the Dutchman will be hoping for a similarly successful afternoon this weekend as the Red Devils look to claw their way up the standings.

United are currently slumped in 14th position on 11 points having won just three of their opening nine league matches with a goal difference of -3.

But recent encounters against Chelsea suggest they can get a result on Sunday.

Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League meetings with Chelsea at Old Trafford, including a 2-1 victory last season and a 4-1 win the season before.

And despite a low goals tally, United have still generated 130 efforts on goal in nine games this season – which is the sixth-highest in the division.

Chelsea, meanwhile, arrive having been dumped out of the Carabao Cup against Newcastle earlier this week.

Enzo Maresca fielded a weakened side for the fixture, so his first-team players including playmaker Cole Palmer should be fresh for this encounter.

Nico

Nicolas Jackson really has stepped things up this season. In a big way.

The Senegalese striker, 23, boasts the second highest xG in the Premier League with just over 6, netting six goals in nine appearances – level with Mohamed Salah.

He’s also bagged himself three assists in those nine league matches, which means he’s now been involved in 14 goals in his last 14 Premier League games – 10 of which have been goals.

Assist

Enzo Maresca did a bit of tinkering during Chelsea’s last Premier League encounter against Newcastle. It was an entirely new left-hand side with Reece James at left-back while Cole Palmer drifted to the left with Pedro Neto on the wing.

It caused the Toon all sorts of problems with Neto firing off FIVE efforts on goal and providing the assist for Nicolas Jackson after 18 minutes.

Neto has now created 12 chances in 401 minutes of action for Chelsea – behind only Cole Palmer, and we’re backing him to add to his tally of three at Old Trafford on Sunday.
