Prabowo supports crackdown on online gambling among officials

Jakarta (ANTARA) –
President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his support for the steps taken by the National Police and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs to eradicate online gambling practices involving government officials.

Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid on Friday briefed Prabowo about the latest arrests of ministry staff over their alleged involvement in online gambling.

“The President said that the steps were correct and must be continued,” she informed.

During a meeting with Prabowo here on Friday, Hafid expressed her readiness to provide access to the police in the ongoing investigation.

She emphasized that she would not hesitate to support the investigation, including allowing the police to enter her ministry’s offices, if necessary.

“So that our office can also carry out the duties and functions mandated by the President properly,” she said.

She has also directed all officials and civil servants at the ministry to cooperate with the police in the ongoing investigation.

“This instruction aims to help the police find other members of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs who may need to be questioned further,” she said.

To prevent such incidents from recurring, Hafid has increased the number of digital space supervisors to monitor the performance of operators in handling online gambling sites.
