TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Jakarta Metro Police have arrested one suspect in the online gambling case involving employees of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi). The suspect with the initial B was arrested in Jakarta.
“So the total number of suspects detained by investigators in this online gambling case has now reached 24 people,” said Head of Public Relations, Ade Ary Syam Indradi, to journalists on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
B is a civilian who acted as the person receiving money deposits from online gambling operators to give to Komdigi employees for protection. From suspect B, the police seized cash amounting to Rp5 billion.
“One of the pieces of evidence is cash. Around 5 billion rupiah. This money is a deposit from the operators,” said Ade Ary.
Investigators, he said, will coordinate with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to trace the flow of funds from the suspects and operators into B. “The value of the evidence and the number of suspects may increase,” he said.
Four suspects are still at large, including J, C, JH, and F. Investigators continue to carefully and intensively pursue the suspects.
“As a form of commitment from the Jakarta Metro Police to thoroughly investigate all parties involved,” he said.
Case of Online Gambling Site Protection by Komdigi Employees
The Jakarta Metro Police have named 25 people as suspects in the case of protection of online gambling sites. Out of the 24 people, 10 are Komdigi employees.
The suspects, who were supposed to block online gambling sites to prevent access by the Indonesian public, instead protected them and demanded payment from the site owners.
“So they were tasked with blocking online gambling sites. They were given access to view and block online gambling sites,” said Jakarta Metro Police Chief of Public Relations, Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi, in Bekasi on Friday, November 1, 2024.
The suspects admitted to blocking online gambling sites every two weeks. If the site owner does not pay Adhi Kismanto (AK) within two weeks, the site will be blocked.
This group has set a fee of Rp8.5 million per site as a security service to avoid being blocked.
