TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Deputy of Analysis and Examination Division of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), Danang Tri Hartono, revealed that the total money circulating in online gambling activities in Indonesia reached Rp283 trillion as of the third quarter of 2024, with deposits totaling Rp43 trillion.
“We have a comprehensive database on online gambling players and their financial transactions,” Danang said during a press conference at the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
To combat this issue, PPATK is collaborating closely with the Ministry of Communication and Digital to implement preventive measures. One of the key strategies involves identifying and deterring repeat offenders. Danang emphasized that online gambling is a criminal offense punishable under the Criminal Code or KUHP.
Additionally, Danang noted that PPATK is working closely with mobile operators to identify and warn individuals involved in online gambling to cease their activities.
At the same forum, the Director General of Resources and Devices of the Post and Informatics (SDPPI) at Komdigi, Ismail, mentioned that they and PPATK have recently held a meeting to discuss preventing online gambling through credit transfer transactions.
“This is an initial meeting, and a technical meeting will follow to discuss the specific steps to be taken,” Ismail said.
