The first meeting of the Advisory Group of the Project “Promoting the mental health of children and youth by addressing the risks of online gambling and gaming” took place online on 13 December 2024.
Started on 1 October 2024, this new project will support the national authorities of Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Poland, Portugal and Slovenia in enhancing their responses to risks posed by online gambling and gaming among children and youth.
At this first meeting, the Advisory Group adopted the work programme of the project, laying thus the ground for the two years of its duration.
Beneficiary authorities from the nine participating EU Member States, together with the European Union (DG REFORM) and the Council of Europe’s Pompidou Group, co-designed this programme to meet three main objectives:
- Providing national authorities with the necessary information to design their national policies tackling the risks relating to online gambling and gaming for children and youth;
- Equipping the authorities with the necessary tools and strategies to implement actions at national and local levels to respond to these risks; and
- Increasing their capacity to raise awareness among children, youth and their parents on these risks.
The next milestone in this project will be its formal launch during an international conference on the current responses to the risks of online gambling and gaming among children and youth, planned on 28-29 January 2025 in Rome, Italy.
