Liverpool take to the European stage at the legendary San Siro against AC Milan in the brand new league phase of the Champions League.
But though the format has changed, the assignment remains the same – win.
Liverpool’s fantastic start to the 2024-25 campaign came to a shuddering halt over the weekend after suffering a shock defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

But the task could be a little more tricky after AC Milan’s resounding 4-0 win over the weekend – although that was Paulo Fonseca’s first in the opening four competitive games of his tenure.

Federico Chiesa did not make the squad for Liverpool’s Premier League game against Nottingham Forest, as manager Arne Slot is cautious with his fitness. He could make his debut in Italy but is very unlikely to start. Harvey Elliott is out with a foot fracture.
For AC Milan, Ismael Bennacer, Alessandro Florenzi, and Marco Sportiello are injured, with Malick Thiaw doubtful. Davide Calabria is fit, and Fonseca is likely to stick with the winning team from the weekend, including the likes of Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

There should be no shortage of goals in this fixture, if both sides have their shooting boots on.
AC Milan’s first four games of the Serie A campaign have finished 2-2, 2-1, 2-2 and 4-0 with Paulo Fonseca’s side having had the most touches in the opposition penalty area and the second-highest xG in the division.
The hosts are conceding plenty of chances, while only four Premier League sides can better Liverpool’s 62 attempts in four outings and only Manchester City have a higher xG.
