TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General’s Office (AGO), Harli Siregar, denied reports that the agency had conducted a search of the room of Budi Arie’s special staff. His statement came in response to a video posted on the Instagram account of DPR member Ahmad Sahroni, which showed a number of people in Jampidsus investigators’ uniforms conducting a search.
Harli said the video uploaded by Ahmad Sahroni was of a different situation, in a different location and for a different case. “We did not conduct a search in that place (Budi Arie’s special staff room),” Harli said when confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday, November 10.
The AGO, Harli said, would not be conducting a search in the near future. He reiterated that the video on Ahmad Sahroni’s Instagram account was related to another case released by the AGO. “If you look at the video, it is likely to be investigators’ activities in another place and in another case that has been made public,” he said.
The video, uploaded by Ahmad Sahroni through his personal Instagram account @ahmadsahroni88, was captioned: “The room of Budi Arie’s (Minister of Communication and Information) special staff who protects online gambling was raided by the police, a pile of money was found in a fantastic amount. Is this real news?”.
The 27-second clip shows a number of officers wearing red shirts with the words “Pidsus” from the Attorney General’s Office and members of the TNI.
The officers were seen opening a number of drawers containing stacks of Rp100,000 rupiah bills.
As of Monday, the post had been viewed 1.3 million times, with 7,333 comments and 14,000 shares.
Budi Arie’s name has come under the spotlight recently after Metro Jaya police uncovered an online gambling syndicate involving employees of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (formerly the Ministry of Communication and Information). Budi is a former Minister of Communication and Information who now serves as Minister of Cooperatives.
