Won by the likes of The Big Dog, Welsh National hero Raz De Maree, and none more famous than the two-time Aintree Grand National hero and Cheltenham Festival legend Tiger Roll

It’s doubtful that we will see anything of that calibre hiding in plain sight this year, but even so, this year’s running is shaping to be a vintage renewal.

Away from Limerick, I have two other betting tips who may be able to get their heads back in front today.

Bourbali, not seen since May, when beaten 24 lengths over course and distance off a mark of 134, makes his seasonal return off 127.

This is the same mark that saw him win by 22 lengths over course and distance back in November 2023.

Granted, it was a two-horse race, and he beat First Street (sent off 1/7 favourite), who hasn’t won since November 2022, but it was still an impressive front-running display.

On the back of that, he was sent off 5/1 for a Grade 2 Novices’ Chase at Kempton. His race was run early as he got into a pace duel with tearaway front-runner Nickle Back, and those exertions looked to have left their mark for the remainder of the season, failing to run near his best.

Now, back from a summer break and off his last winning mark, it looks very likely that Bourbali will get his own way up front in this small field. If that is the case, he can get them on the stretch from a long way out, putting his rivals jumping under pressure.

And we know it is tough to reel them back in if you get away up front at Kempton.

Leopardstown3:35 – Thomas’s Of Foxrock “Jim And Kathleen Murphy” Memorial Trigo Stakes (1m2f)

Since coming back hurdling, Sunchart has been showing excellent progression in his latest three starts with a maiden hurdle win, and narrowly missing out on a Grade 3 Novice Hurdle at Tipperary this month (he should have won)

He returns to the flat on top of his game, but more importantly, on the ground, he will relish.

The last time he contested at Listed level over a half a furlong further than today on heavy ground, he was an easy six-length winner.

Even with Sunchart having to concede weight all around here, it is hard not to see him seriously involved in the finish with conditions very much in his favour.

Limerick 3:50 – Grade 3 BoyleSports JT McNamara Munster National Handicap Chase (3m)

There are not many better things in racing than a three-mile slog around Limerick on a Sunday.

And the 2024 running of the Munster National, on paper, looks to be as competitive as ever.

As much as Perceval Legallois still looks more than capable of winning off this mark, he has been bitterly disappointing in his two starts since a brave front running second at the Punchestown Festival.

He has to be taken on today, and the one who may be more than equipped for a slog around Limerick is the Haydock Grand National Trial winner, Yeah Man.

We all know what it takes for a horse to win on heavy ground at Haydock, and Yeah Man passed the test with flying colours back in February, leaving no doubt that he will be able to handle heavy ground at Limerick.

He’s 7lb higher than when winning at Haydock, but he travelled with immense ease on the ground at Haydock and only for idling when hitting the front; he would have won a lot further.

Sent off a well fancied 8/1 shot for the Irish National, Yeah Man never looked comfortable at any stage of the race. His jumping was all over the place, and he was lucky not to come down a few times throughout the race.

Now in here on the back of a well-earned break, and on the ground we know he handles with ease, he may be able to continue the fine start of the Gavin Cromwell stable and take another National for this in form yard.
