The post positions have been drawn for the third and final leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes. The 156th renewal of the Test of the Champion will take place at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York, while Belmont Park continues to undergo renovations. It’ll be the first race away from the regular venue since 1967.

The winners of previous Triple Crown legs, Mystik Dan (Kentucky Derby) and Seize The Grey (Preakness Stakes), are in the field. The former is the only horse to have participated in all three main races. Neither of the previous victors are favored at Saratoga, though, so who is the betting favorite?

Sierra Leone is the early favorite at the 2024 Belmont Stakes

Sierra Leone opens up as the betting favorite with 9/5 odds out of post No. 9. You’ll remember Sierra Leone and jockey Flavien Prat famously finished just a nose behind the winner at the 2024 Kentucky Derby.

The horse with the second-shortest odds is Mindframe at 7/2 from Gate 10. Mystik Dan (5/1) and Seize The Grey (8/1) are also in the running for the $2 million prize, according to oddsmakers.

The second favorite horse on the board, Mindframe, is trainer Todd Pletcher’s prize horse in this race. Pletcher has won the Belmont Stakes four times and he hopes to find a winner again this year, occupying 30% of the field. His two other horses taking part in the Belmont are Antiquarian (12/1) and Protective (20/1).

Favorites have won 43% of races at the Belmont Stakes all-time, this includes four of the last six.
