Benny Rhamdani Tight-Lipped on ‘T’, Alleged Online Gambling Kingpin, After Interrogation

Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) interrogated Benny Rhamdani, Head of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), on Monday regarding his claim about an individual identified only as “T,” who is suspected of masterminding online gambling operations in Indonesia.

As the identity of “T” has yet to be verified, Bareskrim plans to summon Benny for additional questioning on August 1.

“Yes, we haven’t reached the core of the investigation yet. We’ve asked questions, but a clear answer on the identity of ‘T’ has not been provided,” said Djuhandhani, Director of General Crimes, on Tuesday.

Djuhandhani indicated that the earlier interrogation included 22 questions, addressing topics from Benny’s health to his main responsibilities.

“There were also inquiries about limited meetings. When the video of Benny’s statement was played, he requested a delay in the examination,” Djuhandhani added.

After being questioned for approximately six hours on Monday, Benny remained silent when asked by the media about the identity of “T.” Benny said that he had already disclosed this information to the investigators.

“Regarding who ‘T’ is, whether they are truly the mastermind or not, I have already detailed it in the official report that I signed during the clarification session with the investigators,” Benny told reporters on Monday.

Benny refused to reveal the identity of “T.” He also remained silent when asked about “T”‘s background and occupation, leaving it to the police to handle the disclosure of “T”‘s identity.

Earlier, Benny had publicly named “T” as the key figure behind online gambling operations in Indonesia during a speech at the Inauguration and Briefing of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Volunteer Community (Kawan PMI) in Medan, according to a video shared by BP2MI on Thursday.

Rhamdani claimed that both President Joko Widodo and Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo were taken aback by his report, noting that “T” had evaded legal action despite being well-known.
