Best football bets and expert advice for Monday 19 August

There is plenty of football action to take in from across Europe on Monday, including fixtures from the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A.

Our tips focus on matches from all three of those divisions, as Atletico Madrid take on Villarreal, Tottenham travel to newly-promoted Leicester and Italian giants Juventus host a Como side coached by former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Bet of the day

Atletico Madrid to win v Villarreal @ 11/10

After a relatively disappointing season in which Atletico Madrid finished in fourth place in La Liga, below Girona and 19 points off of rivals Real Madrid, Diego Simeone will be hoping his side can mount a more serious title charge this time around.

Their first task sees the Colchoneros travel to the Estadio de la Ceramica and the visitors will be confident they can take all three points at a ground where they have not lost in any of their last six visits.

Villarreal finished four points off of the top seven last season and they lost striker Alexander Sorloth to Atletico in the summer, so they could struggle in front of goal as a result.

The visitors ended last season with wins to nil in each of their final three away matches at Mallorca, Getafe and Real Sociedad, and they should have more than enough quality to claim victory in this one as well.

Special of the day

Tottenham to win and Heung-Min Son to score anytime v Leicester @ 9/5

Tottenham started last season with eight wins and two draws and, while they were not able to maintain their impressive form throughout the campaign, they are more than capable of beginning the new one with victory over newly-promoted Leicester.

Spurs have won on two of their last three visits to the King Power Stadium and they scored 36 goals on the road in the Premier League last season – a tally only bettered by Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

One man who will fancy his chances of opening his account for the season in this one is Spurs captain Heung-Min Son. The South Korean netted 17 goals in the league last time out and has scored 10 times against Leicester in his career, only notching more against Southampton. He looks a tempting goalscorer to back alongside a Tottenham victory.

Long shot of the day

Juventus and Como to draw @ 4/1

Monday night sees the first meeting between Juventus and Como in over 20 years and the visitors, who are playing Serie A football for the first time since 2003, may be able to stun the Old Lady somewhat in Turin.

Juventus failed to mount a serious title charge last season and their home form was a primary reason for this, as the 36-time champions dropped points in eight of their 19 home fixtures.

Seven of these ended in draws and, with Como taking 32 points on the road in Serie B last season – the third best in the division – they could spring a surprise on their top-flight return.
