We look back at the recent Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winners over the last 24 runnings of the big Longchamp race and showcase the top rated horses based on the Racing Post Ratings.
Godolphin’s 2001 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Winner Sakhee Comes Out Top, According To The Racing Post
With a Racing Post Rating of 134, when he won the 2001 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Godolphin’s Sakhee is the top-rated Longchamp winner since the turn of the century.
Sakhee, who was trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, was one of three winners for the stable for far, with Lammtarra (1995) and Marienbard (2002) the others.
While Sakhee’s Arc win was also the second (at the time) for top horse racing jockey Frankie Dettori, who has won the race six times over the years and more than any other jockey in the history of the race.
Before winning the 2001 Arc, Sakhee destroyed a decent field in the Juddmonte International Stakes by seven lengths.
In total, Sakhee raced 14 times in his career – winning eight times and only finishing out of the top three twice. He also won over £2m in total prize money.

Hurricane Run and Dalakhani The Joint Second Best Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Winners Since 2000
Next in the best Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winners list based on the RPR are Hurricane Run, who won in 2005, and Dalakhani, who took the prize in 2003.
Hurricane Run was trained by legendary French handler André Fabre – no trainer has won the Arc more times (8 wins) – and was providing jockey Kieren Fallon with his first win in the race.
Despite being trained in France, Hurricane Run was owned by top British businessman Michael Tabor, who had won the Arc six years prior in 1999 with Montjeu – this horse would have topped the list too, if we’d gone back further, with a RPR of 136.
Like Sakhee, Hurricane Run also raced 14 time – winning 8 of those – spooky.
Hurricane Run Career In Numbers
- Career Runs: 14
- Wins: 8
- Group One Wins: 4
- Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Win: 2005
- Prize Money Won: £2,447,602
The Aga Khan-owned Dalakhani is the other horse sharing the second spot with Hurricane Run, after his win in 2003.
The horse raced nine times in his career and was never out of the first two – winning all but one of those (8 wins).
His only defeat came in the Irish Derby in 2003 – when beaten 1/2 a length by Alamshar as the hot 4/7 favourite with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK.
Dalakhani was also following up Sinndar’s win for owner the HH Aga Khan IV and was ridden by Christophe Soumillon in all his races.

- Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Win: 2003

Sea The Stars Sits As The Third Best Arc Winner In Recent Times
John Oxx’s Sea The Stars tasted defeat just once in his career and that came on debut when fourth at the Curragh.
Since that run he went onto win eight times, including the 2009 Epsom Derby, Coral Eclipse and Juddmonte International – but rounded off his career as the 2009 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner.
Sea The Stars was a six-time Group One winner and amassed over £4m in prize money. He now stands at the Gilltown Stud in Ireland for €200k a time.

Workforce The Top-Rated UK-Based Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Winner In 2010
The 2010 Epsom Derby winner Workforce ended his 3 year-old campaign with a win in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe that same season.
He was looked after by Sir Michael Stoute, who has recently said he’ll be retiring at the end of 2024, and this remains the Newmarket trainer’s only win in the Arc.
Workforce also provided jockey Ryan Moore with his first Arc winner and he’s since added another with the Aidan O’Brien-trained Found in 2016.
Despite only winning four of his eight career starts, Workforce still won his Juddmonte connections over £3m.

Classy Filly Enable Fails To Make The Top 5
Another Juddmonte-owned horse Enable won the Arc twice in her career (2017 and 2018), but remarkably he’s failed to make the top five winners based on the RPR since 2000.
Her 2017 win slots her in at 6th in the table, while her win a year later in 2018 was recorded with a much less RPR of 122 – which is also the lowest during this period. I bet not many would have guessed that.
However, despite this her connections won’t care as she raced 19 times – winning 15 of those – and in the process won a staggering £10.7m in total prize money.
While Frankie Dettori rode Enable in 17 of her 19 races – including her two Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe wins.
