Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United predictions
After an eighth-place finish last time out, Manchester United needed a good start to the 2024/25 season – and that is what they got.
It looked like their home game against Fulham was going to finish goalless until Joshua Zirkzee, a debutant off the bench, popped up with a late winner, diverting Alejandro Garnacho’s cross into the net.
It was a deserved victory for United and a significant improvement on their performance against Fulham in the same fixture last season.
On that occasion it was the visitors who scored late on to take all three points. Fulham were the better team across the 90 minutes, exploiting United’s out-of-possession shortcomings in transition.
Last Friday, United were much more secure without the ball. Erik ten Hag’s 4-2-2-2 formation added more solidity in central areas while also allowing him to fit four attackers into the side.
United also created plenty of chances before they finally converted one via Zirkzee. There is a long way to go this term and there are still questions to be asked of United, but this was a positive opening to 2024/25.
Meanwhile, for the fourth year in a row Brighton & Hove Albion were triumphant on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
With a new man in the dugout in Fabian Hurzeler, they eased to a 3-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park. It was an impressive performance from the Seagulls, who will be looking to get back into the European conversation this season.
Brighton faded in the second half of 2023/24 as Roberto De Zerbi began to plot his way out of the club. But they have had a productive summer in the transfer market and look to be in excellent shape once more.
Brighton now turn their attention to Manchester United, a team they have beaten four times in the last six head-to-head clashes between the pair.
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United betting tips
Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United are looking to build on opening-weekend wins.
Draw – 14/5 (BetUK)
Manchester United lost eight away games in the Premier League last term. That is simply too many for a team with top-four aspirations. Ten Hag must make his team harder to beat on the road.
That is especially true against opponents like Brighton & Hove Albion. Champions League qualifiers go to places like the Amex Stadium and, at the very least, avoid defeat.
They do not necessarily dominate from minute one to 90 – that is tough to do against a side like Brighton – but they are capable of digging in and getting something.

Fulham struggled to create clear-cut chances against United last time out. With their array of attacking options in the XI and on the bench, Brighton should do better in that regard.
However, we think United can get a point at the Amex. Their new system ensures the midfield is less isolated, which was a major shortcoming of Teg Hag’s team last season. Beating Brighton at their own stadium will be tricky, however.

Both teams to score in the second half – 6/4 (BetUK)
Not for the first time, Brighton could be one of the most exciting teams to watch in the Premier League this season.
Look through their squad and there are plenty of sources of goals. Danny Welbeck led the line against Everton, but Evan Ferguson offers different attributes at centre-forward.
Joao Pedro looks set to play as a second striker, with Kaoru Mitoma, Julio Enciso, Yankuba Minteh, Simon Adingra, Georginio Rutter and the currently injured Solly March all options out wide or, in some cases, in the No.10 position.
If this game opens up in the second half, Brighton will fancy their chances of breaching a Manchester United backline that could feature two summer signings in Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
As for United, they scored 35 goals in the second half last term compared to only 22 before the interval.

Joao Pedro to score any time – 39/20 (BetUK)
Joao Pedro is a versatile forward who can play either as a line-leading striker or as a withdrawn frontman. Hurzeler will no doubt use him in both positions throughout the season, although the Brazilian looks set to primarily be used in the latter role.
Welbeck’s ability to run in behind stretches opposition defences, thus giving Joao Pedro more space to exploit between the lines.
The former Watford man showed last season that he has the movement and positioning to get into dangerous areas on a consistent basis.
He is also a reliable finisher and ended the 2023/24 campaign with 20 goals in 40 appearances across all competition.
In addition to the threat he provides in open play, Joao Pedro is Brighton’s dedicated penalty taker.
