Brighton vs Man City preview
Panic stations for Manchester City?
Manager Pep Guardiola would certainly have you believe that after declaring that this season would be “a struggle” for his reigning champions.
And judging by the last few games – he’s not wrong.
Following successive 2-1 defeats to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup and Bournemouth in the Premier League – Sporting Lisbon dealt Manchester City their heaviest defeat since September 2020.
Incoming Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim watched as his side recovered from Phil Foden’s opener to score four answered goals at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
It’s only the second time that Guardiola’s City have been beaten in three consecutive games in a single season, while Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland has now failed to score in four of his last six games after missing from the penalty spot.
“We knew it would be a tough season at the start,” Guardiola told reporters after their Champions League defeat. “I like it. I love it. I want to face it and lift my players.
“I won’t give up, that’s for sure.”
Manchester City have another tough away trip to Brighton on Saturday, although Fabian Hurzeler’s side could do with a morale-boosting win of their own.
The Seagulls are now winless in their last three outings following back-to-back victories over Newcastle and Tottenham.
Two of those losses were at the hands of Liverpool, and they perhaps should have left Anfield with a result having squandered numerous good opportunities.
Brighton will need to take their chances this weekend if they are to overturn City, whom they’ve lost 12 of their last 14 Premier League games against – conceding 40 goals during that period.

Home goals
Brighton to score 2+ goals is the first selection. The Seagulls are the division’s great entertainers on home turf with their eight games at the Amex Stadium yielding a whopping 30 goals!
Hurzeler’s side scored 2+ goals in seven of those eight matches. In fact, only four sides can better Brighton’s tally of 149 shots on goal this season – averaging a chance every 6.5 minutes.
They will no doubt “have a go” at a wounded Manchester City, who’ve conceded 2+ goals against Bournemouth, Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon in each of their last three outings.

Assist
If we’re expecting Brighton to score a couple, you’d suspect that winger Kaoru Mitoma will be involved.
The Japanese international, 27, has created more chances than any of his colleagues this season with 13 and both of his assists came at the Amex Stadium. He boasts the most touches (374) in the opposition’s final third and has completed more than double the number of successful take ons than any of his team-mates (21).
