Caitlin Clark paid highest compliment as NBA great hands her ultimate comparison

Caitlin Clark has been compared to NBA great Steph Curry following her sensational Rookie of the Year campaign with Indiana Fever. The 22-year-old averaged 19.2 points and a league-leading 8.4 assists per game during the season as she gained widespread attention for her endeavours.

Clark broke the WNBA rookie record for points, assists, three-pointers and double-doubles. And her 19 assists against the Dallas Wings had never been matched in the competition’s history,

She also signed a deal with Nike which is said to be worth up to just shy of £21.5million.

Clark has picked up plenty of fans over the last year thanks to her effort on the court. And five-time NBA All-Star Chris Mullin has extolled the player by explaining: “I love her game.

“A lot like Steph. She reminds me of Steph Curry a lot. She showed a lot of toughness I thought. She showed a lot of toughness. Her skill is incredible. I love the shot making. WNBA is on fire, man.”

Earlier in the week, Indiana Fever’s newly appointed General Manager Kelly Krauskopf also addressed the stir Clark is causing as she stated: “I mean, this is a seminal moment in women’s sports. It’s a big opportunity to be a part of this rising tide that we’re all experiencing.”

And she added: “Caitlin Clark was 10 years old when we won our first championship. It takes a generation sometimes to kind of get to that next level.

“And I would tell our players, ‘Look, we’re building this for someone else. We’re building this for someone’s 10-year-old daughter right now.’ Because that’s what you do. We wanted to just keep moving it forward, keep pushing it forward and paying it forward.”

“I would think that if you are a smart basketball player and you watch the way she plays, you would want to play with her.

“She, much like Tyrese Halliburton, gets you the ball in places that you didn’t even know you were open because she passes to space. She finds openings and ways to free up other players.

“I look at just, really, how her and Kelsey [Mitchell] work together and the efficiency of the offense because of the way that she plays the game and I would think that would be a big draw. I think it’s an easy picture to paint to free agents.”

Elsewhere, New York Liberty owner Clara Wu Tsai said of Clark: “The thing with Caitlin is that people come to watch her style of play. It is because of her and the entire rookie class that we saw such an upswing in viewership.”
