Celtic vs Rangers preview

As mentioned, this game was already written down as a Celtic win a few weeks ago.

And I’ll be honest, they were in my tips when I scheduled them up a few days ago.

But it’s maybe not quite so straightforward now and I’ve had to revise all my selections.

It’s got nothing to do with Celtic either. They’ve continued on this stellar unbeaten run domestically and on the continent since the thrashing in Dortmund.

Tuesday’s point was really poor in Dinamo Zagreb though. No matter how the camp wants to frame it, they were up against a really poor, depleted side and should’ve shaken off the unwanted away record.

Maybe there was one eye on this? Who knows. But a performance and result like that could well haunt them in Europe.

They’ve kept clean sheets in five of their last seven in all competitions and Tuesday aside, are getting the job done at the minute.

But Rangers’ resurgence in recent weeks has thrown a spanner in the works here.

Three successive league wins – and clean sheets – after a stunning 4-1 win in Nice have really set them up well for this.

Added to that the terrific point – which really could and should have been more – against an almost full strength Spurs team in midweek and Philippe Clement’s men are moving in the right direction.

The injuries to John Souttar and Hamza Igamane will be of great worry to Clement though, as he keeps all fingers crossed they make it on Sunday.

Extra played

And this is where the rewrite begins. It was previously a Celtic win and over 2.5 goals.

But at the prices, it would be daft to ignore what Rangers have done in recent weeks.

Much depends on the fitness of John Souttar but provided he makes it, this game could go beyond the 90 minutes.

The extra two days rest will help Celtic but it just depends what Hoops team turns up.

Key Man

Hamza Igamane looked a player that could get bums off seats as soon as he arrived in Glasgow. But he also looked quite lethargic and lazy.

Fast forward a couple of months and he’s breathing new life into this Rangers season.

Five goals in his last five games shows that and his composure in front of goal has been a standout recently, especially when compared to Cyriel Dessers.

Can make presence felt in biggest test so far.
