College Football 2024 Week 3 Odds, TV Schedule And Top 25 Betting Report With SEC Dominance

The first major upset of the college football season comes in South Bend as the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish lose to No. Illinois 16-14. The Irish were a 28.5-point favorite in the Sat., Sept. 7 contest, and the loss drops Notre Dame down to No. 18 in the Week 3 AP Top 25 poll. Week 3 action includes two Top 25 matchups and a rare SEC vs. Big Ten battle when No. 5 Alabama travels to Madison to tackle Wisconsin.

Five conference champions will make the College Football Playoff this year and No. 25 Northern Illinois has the early edge in grabbing that fifth automatic bid after being the first team not from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten or SEC to be ranked in the AP Top 25 in 2024.

The leading online sportsbooks reported heavy betting action on the No. 3 Texas at No. 10 Michigan game with more bettors getting the best of the sportsbooks in the Longhorns 31-12 mashing of Michigan. No. 14 Tennessee was also one of the three most popular bets, and the Volunteers padded their bettors pockets with a 51-10 whipping of the Wolfpack to drop NC State out of the AP Top 25 poll and move Tennessee up seven spots to No. 7.

A key Top 25 matchup kicks off Week 3 on Friday when No. 14 Kansas State hosts No. 20 Arizona at 8 p.m. ET on FOX. The betting line has moved up one point to K-State -7.5. It’s the first meeting of the schools since 1978 with the Wildcats playing K-State in Manhattan for the first time. Note, this is a non-conference game for 2024 as it was scheduled prior to realignment for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Both teams will play nine other Big 12 games.

Also, UNLV from the Mountain West travels to Lawrence to tackle Kansas (-6.5) on Friday in a rematch of last year’s shootout in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl won by the Jayhawks, 49-36. Kansas fell out of this week’s Top 25 following a 23-17 loss to Big Ten Illinois, who had their first home sellout since 2016 and just misses cracking the Top 25 this week coming in at No. 26.

Oregon survived with a last second field goal to edge Boise State 37-34 to avoid another big upset with the Ducks a 18.5 point favorite at post. Now Saturday’s renewal of the Oregon-Oregon State rivalry, formerly known as the ‘Civil War’, is another test for the Ducks. The matchup no longer matches the Pac-12 rivals with Oregon’s move to the Big Ten. No. 9 Oregon has lost three of the last four on the road in Corvallis and the last two as favorite ranked in the top-10. The betting line has bounced around on the Ducks-Beavers matchup and now back up to -16.5.

Georgia received 54 first place votes, Texas 4 and Ohio State 5 to start Week 3. The SEC has six of the top 7 teams in this week’s AP Top 25 rankings.
