The Yoga Studio at Treasury Court in Carlisle topped a list of the 31 best yoga studios in the UK made by fitness company Origym.
Emma Vasquez, owner, said she and her team put in a lot of hard work into the business and that this is reflected in the top ranking.
“It’s great to be recognised for it,” Ms Vasquez said.
Part of this hard work over the company’s history was surviving Covid as a business that traditionally relies on being in an enclosed space with other people exercising.
Thanks to the internet and a savvy mind, Ms Vasquez was able to keep going and maintain a good, reliable service for her customers but setting everything up online.
She explained that video call app Zoom was used to live broadcast led classes, and some were pre-recorded and shared to patrons.
“We just kept it going and supported people as much as we could from home.”
Origym said the studio has been teaching enthusiastic yogis for over 10 years and with over 40 different classes to choose from, it’s ‘easy to see just what makes The Yoga Studio so popular among locals’.
They also cited the online streaming feature which remained post-Covid, which means you can join from wherever you are in the world – vital in our hybrid and home working culture.
For Ms Vasquez, the key is consistency.

“We’re regularly open, we’ve got space so people can always come and take part, and we offer the perks for members.
“Also, with the studio being in an old barn but also in the city centre, it really is a special place and location.”
She concluded by thanking the community of yoga practitioners and teachers for making the studio what it is today – a national leader.
