A blockbuster clash is on the horizon as former three-division champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) takes on current IBO lightweight titleholder George Kambosos Jr. (21-2, 10 KOs) on Saturday, May 11. This bout is scheduled for 12 rounds and will get underway at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. The vacant IBF lightweight championship is on the line and ESPN+ is set to have live coverage.
Lomachenko reached lightweight unification status with a win over Luke Campbell in 2019. However, he lost his first title defense to Teofimo Lopez in October 2020. After Lopez defeated Lomachenko, he was then upset by Kambosos in June 2022. In Kambosos’ first title defense of the WBA, IBF, WBO, and The Ring titles he lost to Devin Haney. Ironically, Lomachenko then fell short to Haney by way of unanimous decision.
Both fighters have experienced unified title status at 135 pounds and come in with true championship pedigree.
