JAKARTA – The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) fully supports the determination of the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Budi Gunawan who will eradicate online gambling cases (judol) indiscriminately.
“The DPR fully supports it. This step is important to protect the public from negative impacts that damage the nation’s morals, social and economy,” said Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives Dave Laksono, quoted from a statement received on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
According to him, the eradication of judol should not only target the main actors, but must be comprehensive, including site owners, dealers, payment infrastructure providers, to officials and officials who are proven to be involved.
Apart from the perpetrators, he said, the supporting infrastructure for judol must also be completely cut off so that there is no room to re-develop.
Therefore, he encouraged strict supervision of the digital payment system which is often used in carrying out this illegal activity.
“Law enforcement must be transparent, fair, and touch the entire online gambling network. There should be no loophole for anyone involved, including officials or officials who protect this practice,” he said.
Dave said that all circles in the DPR are committed to guarding the eradication of judol. If needed, the DPR is ready to strengthen regulations related to law enforcement against online gambling so that eradication can be more effective.
“The parliament will ensure that this process runs transparently and accountably. If there is a legal loophole, we are ready to support the government with stricter regulations,” he said.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan on Thursday (14/11) confirmed that his party would not indiscriminately uncover gambling cases, including cases involving unscrupulous employees of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemenkomdigi).
“Everything has no tolerance and we believe it is because the President has ordered that everything will be processed,” said Budi Gunawan.
According to the man who is familiarly called BG, the National Police is currently still investigating to find out the involvement of other parties in the vortex of the judol case.
The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs ensured that he would not allow the Police to intervene by any party in investigating the case.
