Denmark’s gambling market sees slight 2.6% revenue increase across all segments in July | Yogonet International

Denmark’s gambling industry experienced a slight growth in July, with gross gaming revenue rising by 2.6% year-on-year, reaching DKK554 million ($82.6 million). This increase spanned across all gambling verticals, including both online and land-based sectors, according to data released by Denmark’s gaming regulator, Spillmyndigheden.

The online casino segment emerged as the key driver of this growth, recording a 7.8% increase in GGR from the previous year, totaling DKK284 million ($42.14 million). Despite this positive trend, the revenue fell short of the record DKK309 million ($45.85 million) achieved in March. The online casino sector accounted for 51.25% of the total GGR, marking a slight increase from the 48.69% share it held in July 2023.

Sports betting revenue also saw a modest rise, increasing by 0.7% year-on-year to DKK149 million ($22.11 million). However, this figure represents a significant drop from June’s GGR of DKK271 million ($40.2 million), which was boosted by the Euro 2024 tournament. Betting contributed 26.9% to the overall GGR, maintaining its position as a major component of the Danish gambling market.

The land-based gambling sector faced challenges, with both casino and slot machine revenues declining. Casino revenue dropped by 9.4% compared to the previous year, bringing in DKK29 million ($4.3 million). Slot machine revenue also decreased by 5.2%, totaling DKK92 million ($13.6 million). On a monthly basis, casino revenue fell by 9.3%, while slot machine GGR dipped from DKK97 million ($14.39 million) in June to DKK92 million ($13.6 million) in July.

The number of players enrolled in Denmark’s national self-exclusion scheme, ROFUS, reached 51,226 in July, reflecting an 11% increase compared to the same month in the previous year. Of these, 34,069 were fully excluded players, while 17,157 were temporarily excluded. The majority of those excluded were males, accounting for 77.33% of the total, while females made up 22.67%. The increase in ROFUS registrations between June and July was 1.63%, during a period when the total GGR was reported at DKK703 million ($104.32 million).
