The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) has published its May 2024 sports gaming revenue report, and like we’ve seen nationwide, things continue to be promising for our best sports betting sites.

The report revealed a 36.9% increase in handle year-on-year, with over $611.6 million wagered across the Ohio sports betting market. May marks the eighth consecutive month where the handle exceeded $600 million, pushing the Buckeye State’s all-time total handle beyond $11 billion. 

Where it went

Ohio sports betting apps dominated, accounting for over 97% of the total handle, with $595.2 million wagered, while retail sportsbooks contributed $16.4 million.

DraftKings surpassed FanDuel in terms of handle for the first time this year, contributing $204.2 million, while FanDuel collected $199.8 million. Still, FanDuel continued to outpace DraftKings in revenue. You can check out the new Ohio handle king with our DraftKings promo code.

While DraftKings made revenues of $20.1 million, FanDuel generated revenue of $30.6 million. Overall, adjusted gross revenue from online and retail sportsbooks reached $67.2 million, up 16.4% year-over-year.

Both contribute plenty of Ohio sportsbook promos.

Other sportsbooks

bet365 follows behind the top two, with $45 million in handle and $4.7 million in revenue for May. BetMGM, Caesars, and ESPN BET came in fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively.

Retail and online sports betting became legal in Ohio on January 1, 2023, allowing up to 25 operators to receive a Type A license for online wagering and up to 40 Type B licenses for retail sportsbooks.

Currently, 19 online sportsbooks and 18 retail sportsbooks are operating in the state. With May’s figures added, Ohio sports gaming revenue for 2024 has now surpassed $384.4 million.
