English Premier League table 2023/24: Updated EPL standings as Crystal Palace humiliate Man United | Sporting News United Kingdom

The latest matchday of the Premier League season ended with Manchester United enduring utter humiliation at the hands of Crystal Palace.

The injury-ravaged Red Devils were beaten 4-0 at Selhurst Park on May 6 to leave manager Erik ten Hag facing serious questions about his long-term future at the club.

The weekend started with Arsenal going four points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Bournemouth before champions Manchester City responded by hammering Wolves 5-1.

Mikel Arteta’s side performed superbly in Saturday’s early kickoff, only for Erling Haaland to rack up a stunning four-goal haul to aid City’s pursuit of a fourth consecutive top-flight title.

At the other end of the table, Burnley’s survival hopes suffered a body blow as they were hammered 4-1 by Europa League-chasing Newcastle United.

That loss was compounded by Nottingham Forest beating already-relegated Sheffield United 3-1 to move three points clear of third-bottom Luton Town, who drew 1-1 with Everton on Friday.

On Sunday, Aston Villa were beaten 1-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion to give Tottenham a boost in their top-four chase ahead of their game with Liverpool at Anfield, but their dispiriting 4-2 loss means those Champions League hopes are pretty slim. Chelsea thrashed West Ham 5-0 to give themselves a chance of qualifying for Europe.

The Sporting News will update the table below and break down each of the key races throughout the 2023/24 season.

Champions League spots, European places 2023/24

In 2023/24, there was a scenario in which the Premier League could see the top five teams all qualify for the UEFA Champions League had England finished as one of the top two performing nations in European club cup competitions. However, those hopes are now over.

If the FA Cup winner or Carabao Cup winner finishes in the top four, the European berth that accompanies that title would go to the next team in the Premier League standings not already qualified for Europe.
