Everton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers predictions

Everton finished Matchday 13 in 15th place in the Premier League on 11 points. The Toffees are just two points above the relegation zone, although they do have Leicester City and Crystal Palace between themselves and the bottom three.

Scoring goals has been Everton’s biggest problem this season. The Toffees have only found the back of the net on ten occasions in the current Premier League campaign. They have the joint-worst record alongside Southampton, who sit bottom of the table.

The lack of goals means Everton manager Sean Dyche has seen his team go five matches without a Premier League win. The last time the Toffees tasted victory was on Matchday 8, when they defeated Ipswich Town away with goals from Iliman Ndiaye and Michael Keane.

Since that win, Everton have drawn three matches and lost two. The draws came against Fulham (1-1), West Ham (0-0) and Brentford (0-0). The two defeats came against Southampton (1-0) and Manchester United (4-0) on Sunday.

The shutout in the defeat at Old Trafford means Everton have now only scored one goal in five Premier League matches.

Everton’s Wednesday night opponents, Wolves, are also having a poor Premier League campaign. They currently have just nine points, and sit 18th in the table, in the final relegation position.

Wolves have had a bit of mini-revival in recent weeks. After going ten matches without a win, the Old Gold won back-to-back matches against Southampton (2-0) and Fulham (4-1). The victories had slightly eased the pressure on under-fire boss Gary O’Neil.

Wolves were four matches unbeaten when they lined up against Bournemouth at Molineux on Saturday. But that run came to an abrupt halt when a hat-trick of penalties from Justin Kluivert saw Gary O’Neil’s former team leave the Midlands with a 4-2 victory.

The men from Molineux have the worst defensive record in the Premier League. So far this season, Wolves have conceded 32 times in the top flight, that’s five goals more than anybody else.

On the flip side, Wolves have scored 22 goals this campaign – the same amount as Manchester City. They are by far the highest scorers in the bottom six, and additionally, only seven of the top-eight teams in the Premier League have scored more out of the whole division.

Scoring goals may keep Wolves up. But conceding too many will almost certainly see them go down.

Before they conceded another four times on Saturday, Wolves had tightened up in recent weeks. They had only conceded seven in their previous five, which, compared to the ten they conceded in the previous three games, was a vast improvement.

Everton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers betting tips

Stats can be interpreted in different ways. As bad as Everton has done this season, they have only lost two of their last nine in the Premier League. But they have also only won two of that nine, and the two defeats have come in their last three.

It’s a similar story with Wolves. They have only lost one of their last five, picking up eight points from the previous four matches. But the Midlands outfit only picked up one point from their opening eight matches of the season.

One statistic that can’t be interpreted in any other way is that both teams have just two wins each this term. Wolves have had their two wins more recently, and they are probably just about the team in the better form. But home advantage could be key here, and we say the Midlanders will leave Goodison Park empty-handed. Our Everton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers betting tips are below:

Everton to win

Everton will be hurting from their 4-0 hammering at Old Trafford. Manager Sean Dyche will demand a reaction from the players, and so will their long-suffering fans.

Night matches at Goodison Park can be special occasions. And with the club moving to a new ground next season, they don’t have many night fixtures remaining at this famous old stadium.

As a result, the fans will be up for this more than they normally are, and they are certain to make sure the players are as well. We can see Everton ending their goal drought and their winless run.

Both teams to score

It almost sounds silly to be backing both teams to score in a match involving Everton. But with the second team in this match being Wolves, the bet all of a sudden makes some sense.

In 11 of Wolverhampton’s 13 Premier League matches, both teams have scored. Wolves have scored in 12 of their 13 matches, and they have also conceded in 12.

Surely this is the match the Toffees finally end their goalless streak. And Wolves just manage to score in nearly every game they play in. Wolves score plenty and can’t keep clean sheets.

Back both teams to score at 7/10 with BetMGM

Dwight McNeil to have over 2.5 shots

Former Burnley wide man Dwight McNeil has three goals and three assists in 12 Premier League matches for Everton this season.

We do have to go back to the 2-0 win over Ipswich Town to find his last goal involvement. But Everton has only scored one goal since that victory, and that can’t all be blamed on the winger.

If anyone in a Royal Blue jersey is likely to get Everton firing, it is O’Neil.

He has come in for a good bit of stick from fans after he was caught laughing and joking with Marcus Rashford while the team were 4-0 down at Old Trafford on Sunday.

McNeil will be keen to get the fans back onside quickly. He is likely to be given more shooting opportunities against a Wolves defense that can be described as loose at best.

We can’t see him turning down any invitations to shoot on sight in the current climate.
