Expert’s top fitness trends to watch out for in 2025

The team at PureGym has once again revealed their predictions for the next 12 months

There are several PureGyms located throughout Liverpool city centre

The start of a new year is the perfect time for a fitness routine refresh, and PureGym’s annual report is back to “bring inspiration.” The report has once again delved deep into all the trending workouts of the moment to reveal which is likely to be the biggest for 2025—with remote personal trainers set to get people moving the most.

The analysis, which compared the current number of monthly global Google searches for more than 200 fitness trends to the same period one year ago, has revealed the workouts and fitness fads that are seeing the biggest peaks in interest for the next 12 months.

‘Remote personal training’ takes the top spot, with year-on-year interest up by a huge 414%. Many PTs began offering online coaching out of necessity during the pandemic but have since continued to diversify their services by offering online platforms and video sessions.

One of the main benefits of working with a personal trainer remotely is the convenience of fitting a workout around tricky schedules without taking time to travel to and from the gym. PureGym Personal trainer Claire Phippen said: “With so many people now comfortable using apps, and with the legacy of ‘remote work’ that’s carried on since the pandemic, it’s no surprise virtual fitness solutions have become much more popular in recent years.

“Research has shown that remote personal training is an effective way to get results, so it can be a great way for people to have more structure in their fitness, in a more convenient way. This can also cut down on cancelled sessions due to travel-time constraints and other reasons, which is of course beneficial for both the trainer and trainee!”

The meteoric rise of Hyrox also continues. It ranked as the second biggest fitness trend for 2025, thanks to a 233% increase in interest year-on-year, following on from it featuring in the top five trending workouts for the previous two years.

PureGym’s Fitness Report even found that out of all the people planning on taking part in a fitness-themed event, be it a marathon, park run or sports competition, 1 in 10 have entered or are planning on entering a Hyrox event – further cementing just how popular it has become.

TikTok’s influence on health and fitness trends continues to be seen too with the 30-30-30 rule set to be something many people live by in 2025. Standing for eating 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking up, followed by 30 minutes of low-intensity exercise, the weight loss ‘rule’ first originated in the 2010 book ‘The Four Hour Body’, however, it has risen to prominence once again thanks to TikTok creator and biologist Gary Brecka featuring it in one of his videos.
