Fiorentina vs Roma predictions

Fiorentina’s season under new head coach Raffaele Palladino didn’t get off to the best of starts.

The Viola started their Serie A campaign with three draws and one defeat. But the run of games coincided with Fiorentina’s two legged Europa Conference League playoff against Puskás Akadémia, and it could be that Palladino prioritised European qualification over league form.

With European football secured, performances have picked up, and Fiorentina now sit fifth in Serie A. Palladino’s team has 13 points from eight games with three wins, four draws and one defeat.

They also have a 100 percent record in the Europa Conference League with wins over The New Saints (2-0) and Saint Gallen (4-2).

Combining their European wins with domestic victories over AC Milan (2-1) and Leece (6-0), Fiorentina are now on a four-match winning streak.

Furthermore, Fiorentina have found their scoring boots in recent games.

The Viola has scored ten in their last two matches. New signings Danilo Cataldi and Andrea Colpani both scored twice in the 6-0 win over Leece. And with both now looking far more settled, Fiorentina can approach the match against Roma in a more confident mood.

Like their hosts on Sunday, Roma were also winners in Europe this week.

Ivan Juric’s team beat Dynamo Kyiv 1-0 in the Europa League to give the Giallorossi a much needed confidence boost.

Juric is supposed to be in his so-called honeymoon period after taking over from Daniele De Rossi earlier in the season.

But that is simply not the case with the Croatian already coming under fire from fans and media after some poor results.

The Europa League victory ended a run of three matches without a win consisting of a disappointing 1-0 Europa League loss to Elfsborg, a 1-1 draw away at Monza, and a 1-0 home defeat to Inter last Sunday.

In isolation, the Inter defeat can be excused. But when the previous two results get thrown into the mix with it, it’s going to give the manager a headache.

In Serie A, Roma sit 10th in the table with 10 points from eight matches. The Giallorossi has won two, drawn four and lost two this season.

In team news, Moise Kean and David de Gea should both return for Fiorentina after sitting out the Conference League win on Thursday. Albert Gudmundsson will miss the match after picking up an injury in the win over Leece last weekend.

Roma will be without Alexis Saelemaekers. But they are set to bring the dangerous Paulo Dybala back into the team after the Argentine sat out the Europa League win.

Fiorentina vs Roma betting tips

On form, this looks like a home win. But Fiorentina aren’t odds-against for no reason. Roma has a stronger team on paper, and it’s surely only a matter of time before Ivan Juric gets a tune out of them.

As for Fiorentina, the quality of the opposition they have been beating needs to be taken into consideration. The wins will give them confidence. But Roma won’t be a pushover like the Viola’s last three opponents were. You can check out our betting tips on the match below:

Roma to win

It might seem like a crazy bet, but odds of 9/5 on a win for Roma look too good to turn down.

Why, well because they put up a stubborn fight in their 1-0 loss to Inter last Sunday and they backed that up with a win in Europe on Thursday.

Fiorentina look to be in good form. But in their four-game winning run they were very lucky to beat AC Milan and the two Conference League wins were over very inferior opposition.

This could be a case of Fiorentina currently being in a false sense of security.

If you are not convinced, then maybe consider backing Roma to win in the draw no bet market at even money instead.

Under 2.5 goals

This could end up being another cagey affair like Roma’s match with Inter last Sunday.

Ivan Juric is slowly and carefully trying to turn his team’s fortunes around. That doesn’t happen by going gung-ho away from home at a team on a four-game winning streak.

Juric is already fighting to keep his job. So expect to see the Romans turn up with a game plan that stifles the Viola and stops them playing.

Furthermore, under 2.5 goals has been the outcome in five of Roma’s last six matches. Fiorentina do have goals in them. But we believe this game will be played on Roma’s terms.

The plan will likely be to keep things tight and try to sneak a one goal win on the break.

Over 4.5 yellow cards

Fiorentina picked up five yellow cards in their 6-0 win over Leece last weekend. They now have 18 yellows in eight Serie A matches this season.

Roma has only picked up 12 yellows in eight matches. They sit joint-second bottom of the Serie A discipline table. Only Napoli has fewer yellow cards and disciplinary points.

There were five yellow cards in Roma’s 1-0 defeat to Inter last Sunday. Roma received two of them.

This could be one of the problems for Ivan Juric’s team. They are too passive.

To go away from home and get a result, Roma needs to engage more in the dark arts.

We expect to see both teams pick up cards on Sunday. Five or more yellow cards in a match that could be tight and niggly is more than possible.
