Haydock Sprint Cup Celebration 2024 – Day Two Betting Tips

A much better turnout for day two of the Betfair Sprint Cup meeting, and it’s shaping up to be a day where winners are there for the taking.

Seven races are scheduled, but I’ve got four betting tips that I believe will bring us some nice profit by the end of the day, three from Haydock, and one from Down Royal.

The odds are in, so here are the best horse bookmakers offering the top betting odds for the Betfair Sprint Cup.

Haydock 2:00 – Lee Thomas Christy Memorial Handicap (5f)

This is quite an open 5f sprint where cases can be made for the majority of the field, but none more so than KUWAIT CITY.

This four-year-old sprinter showed some decent form last season, most notably finishing just 4¾ lengths behind Rohaan in a Class 2 at Ascot.

Kuwait City started this season with a win off a mark of 77 at Yarmouth, but couldn’t build on that in his next four runs. However, he showed signs of a revival last time out at Newbury.

Held up in midfield, Kuwait City got outpaced but ran on again at the finish. Now, down to a career-low mark of 73, there’s every chance his turn is just around the corner.

At 8/1, he offers value as an each-way selection here.Two-time course and distance winner Secret Mistral also looks set for a prominent showing.

  • Selection: Kuwait City 10/1
  • Danger: Secret Mistral 5/1
  • Current Betting: Scallywag Bay 4/1, Secret Mistral 5/1, Thunder Star 12/1, Bayraat 7/1, Copper Knight 14/1, Kuwait City 10/1, Arecibo 10/1, The Coffee Pod 15/2

Haydock 2:35 – Tattersalls £40,000 EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (6f)

First Instinct made a bright start to his career with a win on debut and should put in another good display here. However, he may struggle to give weight away to STORMY IMPACT.

The Richard Fahey trained two-year-old has finished as the runner-up in both of his starts so far and was turned over at 2/5 on his second run over 5f, which does rise a slight concern.

He steps back up to 6f here, which will suit him better, as he showed on debut and when rallying after being headed at the speedy Beverley track.

Now on a more suitable track, he’s capable of making it third time lucky.

  • Selection: Stormy Impact 5/4
  • Danger: First Instinct 8/1
  • Current Betting: Stormy Impact 5/4, Rogue Sensation 7/2, Liberalised 6/1, Flashy Dark Angel 8/1, First Instinct 8/1, Mother Mara 10/1

Haydock 4:20 – Oakmere Homes Handicap (7f)

Another great betting heat here, with plenty of contenders in with a chance.

The one I believe is worth another go, despite two luckless runs, is YORKSHIRE.

His last two runs – finishing 00 – don’t inspire much confidence on paper, but you can easily excuse them. At Newmarket, he was bumped leaving the stalls and then denied a clear run over the final furlong. At Goodwood, he wasn’t much luckier, being slow out of the stalls and pulling hard throughout, but still managed to finish within just over five lengths of the winner.

Now, he’s back down to the same mark that saw him dead heat for victory at Thirsk in May, and he’s 2lb lower than when narrowly missing out on back-to-back wins, at Doncaster in June.

If you can forgive his last two runs, he’s back to a mark that he’s more than capable of winning off, especially after a small break.

  • Selection: Yorkshire 4/1
  • Danger: Abduction 9/1
  • Current Betting: Yorkshire 4/1, Mezzo Soprano 10/3, Persuasion 11/2, Pumalin Park 10/1, Boardman 7/1, Tanmawwy 12/1, Tropez Power 12/1
