“We have formulated six steps to eradicate online gambling, and those will be executed immediately,” Setiadi noted in a press release from his office on Thursday.
The minister conveyed this at a meeting regarding strategic steps across work units at his office regarding the Eradication of Online Gambling and/or Slot Gambling on Wednesday.
He then outlined the six steps, with the first being blocking free Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) that have been proven to be used for online gambling access.
The second step entails policies to strengthen the termination of the Network Access Providers (NAP) from Cambodia and the Philippines, while the third approach is issuing warnings and orders to several platforms to control the public Domain Network Server (DNS).
The fourth step involves reviewing and processing the Circular of the Minister of Communication and Informatics regarding the policy of limiting phone credit transfers to a maximum of Rp1 million (USD61) per day, with exceptions for phone credit agents.
Meanwhile, the fifth step is issuing an audit order against PSEs that are likely to be used for online gambling activities with the threat of PSE list revocation.
Under the sixth step, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is processing the Presidential Instruction on the Prohibition and Eradication of Online Gambling Activities.
Setiadi then underscored the importance of enthusiasm and cooperation from all parties to continue progressive steps in stopping all channels supporting online gambling.
He instructed all leaders of work units within his office to prepare a policy concept in accordance with their respective duties and functions.
The concept must be stated in an action plan to eradicate online gambling and submitted to Setiadi and should be executed immediately.
The minister also called on all work units to utilize all available communication channels to campaign online gambling as a fraud.
He expressed hope that all personnel of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics would continue efforts to eradicate online gambling as an important step to protect the public and advance the country.
“Hopefully, online gambling will soon be eradicated from Indonesia. This has become our duty to stop all detrimental activities threatening the progress of the country,” Setiadi remarked.
