UFC 302 will feature a lightweight title showdown between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier on Saturday, June 1. The championship fight will close out the 12-fight card taking place live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
The event will air across the ESPN network, with the main card broadcast starting at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
Makhachev has won 13 straight fights, including an October 2022 victory over Charles Oliveira when he captured the lightweight title. Since that win, he’s had two successful title defenses over former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. The pound-for-pound best fighter in the sport is known for his striking and submission ability.
Poirier recently defeated Benoit St-Denis at UFC 299 and has gone 2-2 in his last four contests. He was once the interim lightweight champion back in September 2019 after beating Max Holloway. Poirier is a fan favorite, looking to end his unlucky streak in championship fights.
