The final 6f Group 1 of the season for two-year-old fillies, the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes, is shaping up to be a fascinating contest.
The two Irish raiders sit at the top of the market, with the unbeaten fillies Babouche from Ger Lyons’ yard and Lake Victoria from Aidan O’Brien.
There’s plenty of opposition with live chances, including two strong contenders from France.

This daughter of Kodiac has already put in some eye-catching performances, none more so than when she took on the boys and beat the now Group 1 winner and short-priced Middle Park Stakes favorite, Whistlejacket.
That form puts her rightly at the top of the market. However, my only slight concern is that Ger Lyons doesn’t have the best record when traveling to the UK.
Back in 2021, he sent over Sacred Bridge as a short-priced favorite for this very race, only for her to finish a disappointing 8th, which lingers at the back of my mind.
That aside, she has shown the potential to be a star filly.
If she travels well and takes everything in stride, she’s the one they all have to beat.

Another filly that comes into this race with a perfect record, and one who, like Babouche, is progressing rapidly.
After winning her maiden at The Curragh, she made a successful trip to Newmarket’s July course, where she impressively took the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes from the front.
She was then tasked with beating her stablemate, Bedtime Story, a filly who looked to have the world at her feet. Unfortunately, Bedtime Story wasn’t herself that day and finished last of the five runners, later found to be lame. However, Lake Victoria did exceptionally well, winning from an uncompromising position and staying on strongly through the final furlong to win going away.
She stays 7f well which could be a significant asset given the amount of rain that has fallen over the last few days.
A huge player here and my top pick.

Daylight’s form ties in closely with Babouche, thanks to her close 3rd place finish to Whistlejacket in the Group 1 Sumbe Prix Morny at Deauville.
This French filly is a major player here, especially with the ground conditions likely in her favor and the step up in trip set to suit her well.
She’s versatile, able to be played late or run with the pace, making her an appealing each-way selection. If either of the top two fail to progress further, Daylight could well upset the Irish raiders here.

A lovely-looking daughter of Kingman, Celandine comes into this race as the most exposed of the eight runners.
She has put together a strong season so far, with three wins from six starts, and is certainly entitled to a crack at Group 1 level after her brave victory in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes at York.
However, the soft ground is a significant concern for her in this race. If the conditions were to dry up (which seems unlikely), her chances would improve considerably.
She’s a likeable filly, but with the ground likely to remain on the soft side, she’s one to oppose here.

The second of the French runners, and the one with the most to prove, Rayevka may have won by five lengths last time out as the 1/2 favourite, but her form is nothing to get too excited about.
Is she entitled to improve further from that experience? Of course. However, even with potential improvement, she has a lot to find against the main contenders here, including her fellow countryfilly.
A win from her would be a big surprise.

She doesn’t strike me as a horse crying out for a slog over 6f, especially given the considerable speed she’s demonstrated this season. Given the ground conditions today, she’s easily overlooked.

She finished over six lengths behind Daylight when they met in the Sumbe Prix Morny at Deauville, and she also has ground to make up with Celandine after their meeting over 6f in a Listed contest at Newmarket’s July course.
Based on what we’ve seen so far, she’s an easy pass.

There isn’t much between the top two in the market, with both running to the same mark, but LAKE VICTORIA gets the slight preference.
She stays 7f well, which could be a significant advantage here with the recent rain. If this turns into a stamina test, she may be the best equipped to handle it.
Daylight will be ready to capitalize if the top two fail to fire, and she’s not without a chance on ground we know she can handle.
