It’s 1st vs 87th as Liverpool welcome League Two Accrington Stanley to Anfield for Saturday’s FA Cup third-round encounter.
And it should be a straightforward afternoon for the Premier League leaders regardless of their midweek Carabao Cup defeat.
Arne Slot’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday, but the it wasn’t a catastrophic result given the second leg is on Merseyside in a few weeks time.
However, they will want to return to winning ways given their somewhat underwhelming displays against both Manchester United and Spurs, which is their longest run without a victory this season.
This is the first meeting between Liverpool and Accrington Stanley in all competitions, and the hosts are understandably favourites at 1/20 with most bookmakers.
Slot will likely rotate his squad for this clash ahead of a busy January that sees the club take on Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Lille, Ipswich and PSV.
Liverpool boast the best record of any side in the League Cup with ten successes, and their history in the FA Cup isn’t bad either having won it eight times with the last arriving in 2022.
The Reds have only been knocked out of the FA Cup at the third round stage once in the last 13 campaigns, while Accrington have lost all three of their FA Cup games against Premier League opponents.
The visitors have won one of their last five away games but John Doolan’s side do arrive having strung together successive wins over Grimsby and Colchester.
