Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest predictions

Replacing Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager had the potential to be a poisoned chalice.

It was not the success the German brought to Anfield; it was also the unique bond he forged with the club’s supporters and the city as a whole.

Klopp is a hugely charismatic figure and it was always going to be difficult for the next man in the dugout to replicate his brand of leadership.

Yet although it is still early days, Arne Slot has done a fine job of stepping into Klopp’s shoes so far.

Crucially, the Dutchman has not tried to be Klopp 2.0. He is a good speaker, but he is not the same sort of big personality as his predecessor. Slot has stayed true to himself.

He has also found the right balance on the pitch. Slot has retained elements of Klopp’s approach, most notably by encouraging the team to continue pressing high up the pitch.

But the former PSV head coach has made tweaks too. Liverpool are more patient in their build-up. They are not quite as thrilling as they were under Klopp, but they play with more control. After going a couple of goals up, Slot is content to manage the game.

It is important to remember that we are only three matches into the Dutchman’s tenure, though. It would be premature to say that Slot’s Liverpool are superior to Klopp’s Liverpool at this early stage.

The fixture list has been pretty kind up to now, bringing meetings with Ipswich Town, Brenford and a Manchester United team that continues to punch well below its weight.

A home game against Nottingham Forest is another assignment that the Reds should be able to negotiate without too much difficulty. The bookies have Liverpool down as strong favourites for this one – and for good reason.

For now, it still feels like this season will be too soon for Liverpool to mount a sustained title challenge.

Yet it is worth remembering that Klopp’s team were right in the mix for most of last term, only to fall away late on. If Liverpool keep winning games, they could yet enter that conversation alongside Manchester City and Arsenal.

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest betting tips

Liverpool are favourites to beat Nottingham Forest when the pair butt heads this weekend.

Liverpool to win and both teams to score – 20/13 (VBET)

Nottingham Forest have had a solid if unspectacular start to the new season. A return of five points looks healthy enough, but it must be said that the fixture list has not been too daunting so far.

Forest have drawn at home to Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers, in between which they beat Southampton on the road. Saturday’s trip to Anfield represents their toughest test yet.

Forest have scored in all three games to date, though, and we believe they will breach Liverpool’s backline too.

Chris Wood’s exploits over the last few months have gone a little under the radar, but the New Zealand international has scored eight times in his last 13 top-flight appearances.

With Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi in support, this Forest team is not short of firepower. Avoiding defeat will be tricky, however.

Back Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 20/13 with VBET.

Liverpool to score in both halves – 7/10 (VBET)

Only Manchester City have scored more goals than Liverpool so far this season, while the Reds also rank second for expected goals. That shows they have been both creating and converting chances at a good rate.

Slot is not short of options at the top of the pitch. He has favoured a front three of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz up to now, but Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa are alternative options from the bench.

With Dominik Szoboszlai in what is more of a 4-2-3-1 formation, it could even be said that Liverpool are playing with four in attack this season.

Forest’s defence can still be got at and they will have their hands full in trying to keep Liverpool’s frontline quiet.

Luis Diaz to score any time – 9/7 (VBET)

The aforementioned Diaz has had a fantastic start to the season.

The former Porto man opened the scoring in the 2-0 defeat of Brentford, before notching a brace against Manchester United before the international break.

No Liverpool player has found the back of the net more often so far, while only Erling Haaland has more Premier League goals overall.

This is all very promising. The Colombia international’s end product had been inconsistent previously, but he is now making more of an impact in the final third.

Against a Nottingham Forest backline that tends to struggle on the road (excepting that 1-0 win at Southampton last week), Diaz can score for a third game in a row.

Tip Luis Diaz to score any time at 9/7 with VBET
