Each and every day of the racing year, we bring you a bumper NAPS Table to give you the inside scoop on all the plays you’ll need that day.
Don’t know what an NAPs Table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…
Only three runners declared, but they are closely matched on form, and it’s an interesting race. The percentage call goes to VINCENZO, who is unbeaten at this trip over jumps and looks likely to boss from the front. Tactics aside, Kalif Du Berlais is strongly respected, with further progress completely plausible, while Tedley ties in neatly with those two rivals and has a respectable chance at the weights.
On the back of a very solid effort in a major handicap, BROADWAY BOY (nap) looks set to defy top weight and register a fourth Cheltenham success. Our Power, who ran creditably here last month, is feared most.
This will probably be fought out by CREST OF FORTUNE and Kap Vert, who were stylish winners towards the end of last year. There may not be much between them, but Anthony Honeyball’s runner arguably has the better form. Peacenik is the only other credible option.
The notably progressive Lucky Place seemed to outstay last season’s Festival heroine Golden Ace over an extended 2m3f at Ascot in November, but it was first time out for both of them, and Lucky Place now has to give her an extra 6lb. The decision between them is not straightforward, but SALVER is an interesting alternative, given his proficiency in mud and a step up in trip. Gowel Road may be vulnerable with his step down in trip, while there are reasons to oppose the rating picks Thunder Rock (pulled up in the Ascot race) and Langer Dan (time of year).
